Living amongst the western culture of planet earth comes with privileges and challenges. Until recently, our society has placed high value on independence, hustle, multitasking, gender roles, conformity, and perfectionism. We lose sight of creativity and self care, which are SO necessary for maintaining balance in everyday life. We forget to create. As a result, we become stressed out, unhealthy, and more unable to cope. We have so many expectations placed upon us.
Everyday we are surrounded by ageism, classism, ablism, and other prejudices that oppress our genetic predisposition for music. We develop unconscious beliefs that making music means we must be the shiny auto-tuned voice with the mechanically precise beats that are heard on the radio. But we are humans, by nature we are imperfect.
Our culture has wounded us to auto respond to music invitations with “I can’t carry a tune” “I don’t have any rhythm” “I’ve never taken lessons” “I’m not good enough”. But guess what… You’ve got a heart beat, your voice becomes higher when you are excited, and lower when you are angry. You are music, live in person. We are so taught to internally oppress our natural musicality. The truth is, we recognize patterns music before we recognize speech.
This page is a call to reverse what we are taught.
We are live music making gifts placed on this planet. Lets embrace our imperfections, step out of our comfort zones and create.
